Cool front brake issues

wondering if anyone has had this problem,of the inner brake pads on a ford explorer wearing out while the outer ones hardly show any sign of wear?had front end checked and everything is good so i'm at a loss as to what problem is other than rotors or calipers.any ideas out there would be greatly appreciated.thanks.

If the pad on the piston side of the caliper is wearing but the other is not, most likely the caliper slide pins (or bolts) (if equipped) are not allowing the caliper to slide properly to get pressure on both pad surfaces. Remove and lube with the proper caliper slide pins grease, replace any missing or damaged rubber dust/water seals on the pins.

With my caliper bolts, I found I had to actually put them in a vice and wire brush them clean before reinstalling them. I live in Minnesota so we see lots of salt on the roads here.

i don't know about buddies but my pins have no rust on them, but there seems to be rust around dust boots.so i guess a rebuild is in order.

Well.....on my 91 it means the fluid level in the master cylinder is low. It has a float switch inside the tank, and once it detects low level, lights the brake light and the anitlock is disengaged and lights up also. Problem solved by adding fluid, and cycling the ignition key.

Could be low on brake fluid - there's a sensor on the master. Or could have a dirty speed sensor at the top of the rear diff. The tend to get coated with metal chips. Pull out, wipe off and reinstall. So changing front pads and rotors wouldn't help a rear only ABS system right? ABS doesn't see the front. But I did notice on my Durango with rear only ABS that the ABS light and the brake light stayed on when the fluid was low.

When you change the pads, you compress the calipers and fluid is pushed back up into the master. Fluid level raises and lights go out. Your buddy might have a bad sensor. I have heard where the float can become saturated and not float. Easy test, disconnect the sensor connector and if it's a normally open switch, the lights should go out.
