I have a 79 f150 2wd and It gets pretty loud inside the cab on the freeway. I have replaced all the weatherstripping around the doors and windows. The noise seems to be from my 31x10.5 tires on the road. Will sound deadener in the floorpan help, should I spray faom into the cab corners, insulate the headliner, what can I do?
They are General Grabber ST. They are an all weather tire with a good tread life warranty. Nothing knobby or all-terrain. I amm really looking for the best place to start soundproofing. I have seen ads for undercarpet sound deadener, but I don't know if it will work. The cab is really not insulated like todays cars are. I just want to improve the sound inside the cab (to be able to talk without yelling at 55mph. Any help from anyone would be great.
I have some knowledge. Insulating the floor pans will help but your real pay dirt is in the doors. The hardest part is not finding the insulation but rather getting it to stick to door. You can't use insulation that is sensitive to water intrusion. The doors are constantly draining water from rain and the insulation I used worked great until it got wet, then it fell off and I had a mess from HE--! You'll actually find your A/C works better also. There is insulation above your headliner but a higher density would work better. 8 pounds per cubic foot is quite a target for density and a closed cell insulation is what your going to boil down to in the end. Closed cell Neoprene? may work. It will glue down and won't saturate with water. keep me update, I'm interested in your progress.

79fordslug,
I did some digging around yesterday and found a product I think will kick #####. There is a company called Rubatex which makes a product called Insul-Sheet 1800. It appaers to be compatible with contact cement and would adhere well to a metal surface. It has a insulating u-value of .277, that's slightly higher than styrofoam per unit inch. There number is 1-800-782-2839. Looks like they are in 5223 ValleyPark Drive Roanoke, Virginia 24019-3074.
