May sound silly, just wondering if it is legal for daily city/highway usage? Or is it just meant for off road only. I have seen some of them on road, they really bright.

I tried the blue bulbs on ebay for one trip around my block. You are welcome to come and get them FREE. they made less light, the blue light was anoying and looking at the truck, the lights looked a purple-brown. I'm sure I would have been stopped by the first cop I passed. Then went to Pep Boys and bought the brightest white 9007 they have, beter than factory and much whitter.

They suck if you are approaching them.

Guess I made the right choice to be behind them and not in front of them, eh there staurt?

Just kidding. It's really important to have the lights properly aimed as well. Most on the road are not.

I had those blue headlights on my former Bronco...and I did get stopped for them. I guess the Cop had nothing better to do on a holiday weekend.

Anyhow, he asked me if I was a Fireman, EMT, Police, etc....and informed me that blue forward facing lights were illegal, etc. I played idiot and said that I had a bulb go out and that Pep Boys told me I had to replace them as a pair. He went on to tell me that they can sell alot of things that aren't legal, etc. I got off with instructions to remove 'em. I did.

My Cobra now runs the Silverstars with 9005s in the fogs. They do not make a Silverstar in 9008 (for an 05 Ex), so I have Xtra Visions and 9005s in the fogs for the Ex. Big difference by switching the 9145s to 9005s.

Matt M, I also have 05 Excursion. The 9005's fit the fogs without any modifications? Also do the headlights resemble the HID lamps or are they just brighter?

Thanks,

Glenn (Redmangh)

Glenn-
The Xtravisions are the same color as regular halogens (like the factory), just a bit brighter. It's not alot brighter, though...something like 20% acording to the package.

The real problem with our '05s is that DOT will not allow a coated bulb in the 9008 size, so no Silverstars, etc.

The 9005 plugged in. I did it in the auto store parking lot. I just reached in behind and swapped 'em out. I just got regular old halogen 9005s. The tabs are slightly different on the 9005s, so you have to wiggle-work it a bit, but they went in without mod.

So, can you run the 9007 Silverstars in the factory harness w/o any overheating issues? I just did the new style headlights (clear) and kept my same bulbs but like a little bit brighter.

Smile hid lights

Vijay, Yes, Technically The Lights Are Illeagal. Even My Inspection Mechanic Cant Tell If They Are Factory Or Aftermarket Because I Still Have Full Use Of My High And Low Beams. But There Are So Many Vehicle Are Out There With The Hid Lights, Most Cops Can't Tell The Difference. And Also, The Color Of My Lights Is Like A Pure White, Not A Blue, Purple, Or Yellow Color. So They Don't Crave The Attention Of Other Aftermarket Lights. But They Are Exremely Bright. Alot Brighter Than Any Silverstar, Xtravision, Piaa, And So On..... They Are Aimed Perfectly, And People Still Flash Their High's At Me. When I Flash Them Back, They Are Quick To Turn Their High's Off. And It's Actually An Inspection Law That The Fogs Must Turn Off When The High Beams Are Activated. So If I Have My Fogs On, I Must Have The Low's On. Unless, Like Alot Of People Here Have The Brite Box Mod. I Don't....

If people are flashing you and your lights are aimed perfectly doesn't that tell you why they are illegal? Seems like a safety issue, doesn't it?

NOT TRYING TO START A FIGHT! Just wondering about the motivation to knowingly run illegal lights.
