Help - need advice!
I bought an '05 Ford Freestar mini-van in August and just recently had the engine light come on already. The code is reading for P454 - something with the emission/OBDII. The dealer tells me they'll have to remove the gas tank of my new mini-van to get to the part to fix it.
With this problem arising, I started looking into the model of my mini-van more closely. When we looked at it on the lot, my husband and I noticed that the sticker on the window said it was a 3.9 liter engine and an SES model but the letters stuck on the back (hatch) door show 4.2 L and SEL for the SEL model.
We questioned the salesman about this and was told that the wrong sticker must have been placed on the window. Not thinking much about this, we bought the van thinking we were buying a 4.2 L SEL model. I never thought to check in the engine until today (stupid, huh?) and it says 3.9 Liter on a little sticker on the engine (I often check the oil but never thought to pay attention to that little sticker until now). As far as what we paid for the van, the price we paid was for the advertised SES model that was on the window sticker so I don't feel we've been had there. But we went away from the dealer believing we bought a 4.2 L for that price.
What would you do in this situation? Do you think the mix-up with the back door occurred at the manufacturers and how do you think I should approach the dealer about this?
As far as the code, make sure the gas cap is on tight, turn it a couple of extra clicks.
