I posted this in the Bronco forum with no response. Maybe someone here can help. This past weekend I was driving my cousin's 95 Bronco, 351 auto. As I was cruising down the highway in OD, I noticed the rpms would rise a bit every so often. I figured it out that it was the right turn signal. Every time I would change lanes to the right, the tach would rise as if the t/c was unlocking. It is only a 2-300rpm increase but was strange. I don't have possession of the vehicle any more, but was curious as to the reason. Maybe the tail light had a short or something. Any ideas?
Normally these trannys do that when the transmission is getting too warm. If it does it all the time, I would look for a bad connection on the sylenoid on the passenger side of the tranny. If that didn't work, I know a way to manually lock up the converter once you get up to speed so that you don't have to worry about it unlocking.
I would say that you might have a bad multifunction switch. It has connections to the vehicle lighting including the brake light circuit. See if when you have the wipers set on slow intermittent, then select the next faster setting and see if the wipers slipe immediately or wait for some time before they swipe. If they swpie every time you select the next setting up then the multifunction switch is likely to be bad and the source of the trouble. If there is a problem with the brake circuit it can cause the torque converter to release as if you tapped the brakes.
Thanks guys, I'll have him check those things. I think it may be a brake circuit problem. I think my wipers(95 F150) work as you stated, and I don't have any other related problems.
Check the stop light bulbs. If the left bulb is burned out and you use the right turn signal the computer sees a brake application that will unlock the torque converter.
