I have a whistling noise in my engine. It is not in the drive train because it does is at idle and progresses with the exceleration. It has a brand new
belt
alternator
cluch fan
power steering pump
and the water pump is one year old (remanufactured)
some times it goes away but not very often.
I have noticed that my oil pressure gauge is runing lower than it has for the past year. (I don't know if oil pumps can whistle)
Can anybody help. I have a feeling it is the water pump...don't know.
it does sound like a vacuum leak. Look around for any hoses that have one end not attached to anything else. It might help to have the engine running (and whistling) when you are looking for the leak. One common place for this to happen is the PCV valve. If that thing comes loose, the whistle is pretty loud.
I went home and removed my belt to ditermin that it was in the belt and accesories system. I removed the belt and started the engin. There was no more whistling...that is what I expected. So I put my belt back on and now their is no whistling at all. So I don't know what happen but I am happy. Thanks for you alls comments.
