High Idle Mod

I just did the high idle on my 05 psd. i used a switch and relay just to be on the safe side. It works great but i thought rpm's should raise slowly. I used the purple with light green strip as to not mess with the tranny/PTO option. It comes on almost hard and sudden there is no slow about it. Is this normal. I just got concerned because i have remote start to warm up in the morning and i want to make sure oil pressure is up before it slams into high idle. It jumps to 15-1700 rpm then comes down to the 1150 area.

its about 6 inches above the P-brake. There is a bundle of wires probably 1" in diameter right behind the fuse panel.

EPDP99, why did you opt to avoid the PTO option? I was under the impression that was a safe, simple and easy way to accomplish the fast idle feature.

Quote from another post:
(If you want to hook up to the BCP wire, find the purple wire with the light green stripe in the bundle just near the top of the emergency brake pedal. Note: don't be fooled into using the light green wire with the purple stripe. That's the output wire for a BCP indicator lamp.)

I have the done the Stationary Elevated Idle Control (SEIC) mod, and it works great. But does the 04 F250 6.0L have the Battery Charge Protect (BCP) option??
I have looked but can not find the purple wire with a green stripe in the same bundle of wires with the SEIC above the park brake peddle.
Thanks for the info.

mine is purple w/ green not reversed. I dont really know why i didnt use PTO option. I guess just from someone saying to prevent unneeded tranny wear. I might put a connector on the end of that one and try it both ways.

EDP99, if the ambient temps are low enough your truck will automatically raise its RPMs untill it is fully warmed up. Some days this has taken 15 minutes for my truck. I wouldn't worry about using your high idle mod untill your truck is warmed up and your gona let it sit running for more than 10 or so minutes, JMO.

I had considered this mod. but I discovered that when mine is cold, when you start it up and let it idle for a minute or so, the idle slowly rises to 1K rpms on its own. I don't know how long it would stay on high, or how warm or cold the engine has to be to enable or disable this feature. I guess the SEIC would be a useful feature if you needed to idle that long.

Every thing you read by anyone who knows these engines is that excessive idling is BAD.

Using the PTO option will not cause excessive wear in the transmission, all it does is lock up the torque converter, and raise the engine RPM to 1200 to provide proper line pressure for clutch shift PTO's to engage and to provide proper output HP and TQ for PTO operation with a load (hydraulic pumps, etc). It's much better to have the smooth raise, especially when starting cold and going straight up, you are correct in wanting the oil pressure to be sufficient, but it really climbs to an acceptable pressure and oil flow very quickly, usually by the time the engine starts, it has turned enough revolutions to provide adequate lubrication to all of the moving parts that need it.
