It started making a high pitched "whirring" noise a couple of weeks ago, really noticable at low speed (under 45), and goes away if I push the clutch in slightly. I replaced the cluch and upgraded to an LUK single mass almost 13,000 miles ago.
It runs and drives fine - no slipping or anything like that. Any ideas?
the luk does have a little more clutch noise than the dual mass did. i think its just the way the friction pack is built. its meant to absorb some of the vibration from the drivetrain and i think some of it just turned into noise from the vibration.
The release bushing and pilot bearing were replaced, but not the fork. The mechanic said that the fork was not too far gone at the time the clutch work was done, but to watch it.
This morning, at a spot I usually downshift to 2nd at a steep corner, I must not have had the clutch all the way to the floor, and I ground 'em. Also, when starting this morning, I felt the clutch pedal sink a little to the floor as I held it in to crank it up.
Am I getting over-sensitive, or does it sound like a repair bill is in my near future?
BTW Barebackjake, you are right about the luk being noisier than the dual mass. It took me awhile to get used to it.

I think you may to need to replace a bent clutch fork. They are not that expensive if you do your own labor.....around $40 if I remember right.
I am fairly new to my 97 F350 and noticed the same noise you are describing. I have had no problems other than noticing the noise. If you decide to change your fork let us know if it takes care of the noise.
