I have an 87 bronco 2 2wd 5spd 2.9efi xlt I picked up for $250 bucks after replacing the alternator, battery, spark plugs, and starter these are the problems I have, the check oil light stays on, the truck runs a little rich and has a slightly rough Idle. Also when I get into fith gear it shakes but only in fith gear and their also seems to be some noise from the front suspension around turns which i cannot seem to locate and it has a lifter tick.
please give suggestions, thank you
Lifter tick is notorious on these. First off I'd check the codes (check Ken00's tech post for instructions on pulling codes). What about cap and rotor? It doesn't cost much and can help things out too.
With the lifter noise and the oil light get a real oil pressure gauge on there before you run it much, you don't want to damage the bearing due to low oil pressure.
a light is fine that comes on right when oil gets to low all you have to do is shut down and investigate the second it lights up during operation and all damage would be avioded driving with ethier the oil light or check oil light on would of course cuase MAJOR damage if not destruction of your motor those lights are not to be ignored i found the oil guage to be misleading at cold engine temps its at 60 psi idleing then drop to 15psi warm this is normal i know but it would be hard to notice right away if the guage droped from 15 to 0 or even 9 or somthing and that would mean damage keep the light on you cant have them both becuase you remove the lights sender to put in the gauge sender
