Hello everyone, i've lurked for a while here and am amazed at the amount of knowledge shared here. Thanks in advance for sharing some with me. I've searched and apparently no one else is as bone headed as me.....I removed the flasher module and fan module near my gas pedal on my 00 Expy with Auto Climate Control, and when I replaced them, I accidently reversed them. After swapping them back and realizing my turn signals didn't work because of a short in the column, I have no front fan at all. Any ideas as to what kind of damage I may have done? I've checked all fuses, and the climate control panel has power and the fan symbol comes on. I'm wondering about the resistor, I smelled a little funny stuff when I turned the key on. I'm usually better than this, I've swapped a 93 EFI motor into an early mustang 4 times and wired them using a factory harness, just had brain fade here... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Darren
Welcome to FTE! I'm not familiar with the particular problem you are having but someone else here should. I'm assuming that your fan control ws working prior to the replacement, perhaps the reversal damaged the module itself? If there was another one easily available I might plug that one in. Given how the circuits are fused I would doubt you 'fried' any wiring.
Funny smells usually mean that you let the "magic smoke" out of an electrical component. If you don't have the means to test those components yourself, it sounds like a trip to a parts house might be in order. Maybe a salvage yard would be a good place to start.
I swapped the fan relay out with the trailer relay with the same part # that is in the underhood power center, nothing changed. I didn't want to throw parts at it unless absolutely necessary. Then I guess I'd start with the resistor for the rear air in place of the one for the front air...sound feasible? Thanks for the replies...Darren
Sorry- didn't mean to make the relay sound like the problem. I suspect that when you installed the wrong relay it put too much voltage or current onto a circuit that couldn't handle it. So, you'll want to look at the climate control electronics to see if they're OK.
