I have an '05 F-250 XL and it came with sealed beam headlights... I just converted to the jeweled headlights and they low beams seem really weak in comparison. High beams are just fine, great actually... but the low beams just flat out suck.
An XL with sealed beams. I need to see that too. I know that sealed beams come on the work edition, but the XL should have the clear crystal lens. You may not have the grounds located in the correct position and they are grounded through the high beam. That is why the high beam is so bright. Both filiments are burning. The 9008 and 9007 bulbs are not interchangable.
You CAN get an 05/06 with sealed beams. My boss has one. It is an XL. He has a couple 05 as well that are XLs that have the jeweled lights too. It all depends on what you order.
All the 05 XL's at the dealership I bought my truck from had nothing but sealed beams... I will double check the grounds... me and my Dad had were guessing/swapping wires to get high/low to work when we were doing the wiring. The plug I ordered had all black wires with numbers on them and the factory wiring was colored.
Anybody have a wiring schematic for these trucks?
Edit: Just found out what the numbered wires are... just need to figure out what the colored wires are.
Black, Green/Black, Green/Orange for left
Black, Green/Black, Green/Blue or Blue Black for right (driver's side) IIRC

NM... got it figured out. I had the ground wire and high beam wire mixed up. Swapped them and now the headlights are great!! Difference is night/day...
For future reference... anyone wanting to do the swap:
1 = Low Beam (Green/Orange or Blue/Black)
2= Ground (Black)
3= High Beam (Green/Black)
My 06 XL's headlight blew out today. 58 days of ownership, only 6100 miles.
Are the sealed beams the cheap looking xl headlights and the jeweled the fancy lariats? or the other way around?
Should I address a warranty issue on this one? I'm going to check on the wiring...
Anyway they are the same looking as the 99-04 xl headlights. Could they come with 9007?
BTW...looks like a real pain to remove and change a headlight. Silverados can be done w/ no tools.
Should be under warranty... take it back to the dealership and let them fix it. Its really not that hard to swap out sealed beams though. 4 bolts to take all the gray plastic and the corner off... two bolts for the headlight itself.

akford351 -- Thanks for providing that information. Good to know...
Totally different... doesn't use bulbs, you have to replace the whole thing.
