Hey guys I saw somewhere in a antique store on a old advertisement that 55' F-100 I think it was came with a windshield washer option. Anyone know anything about that. I was wondering because that would be a great option on trips to shows and cruise-ins on bugy hot days. Thanks Andy
Hopefully someone will have more information on this matter, but I'm pretty sure that a wind shield washer wasn't an option until the 60's. Are you fixing your truck back up to original, or just a nice driver? If your just looking for a nice driver, I bet it would be easy to pirate the stuff off of a 60's or 70's model truck to add a wind shield washer.

Well good question. I am building the truck stock/modified. The exterior I am trying to leave stock except for the wheels that are already changed. The interior hopefully will feel like and look like a modern day ride. So I if it was not a option I quess I will be stoping at gas stations. Andy
I visited a salvage yard and got a small plastic windshield washer reservior, the hoses, and the terminal pieces, $10. Also pulled the wiper switch from a mid 80's Ford pickup which has the intermittent or delay feature module and used it.
Jomes,
I have the remains of a '55 custom cab that had a windshield washer system. Unfortunately, I'm in Texas and the truck is in Kansas. Won't get it down here until later this spring. Under the hood there is a metal bracket that holds a glass jar mounted to the firewall, in front of the driver. There are also some little chrome nozzles that mount to the cowl. I looked through my pics, but none show the system. I'll post some when the truck arrives.

There was an optional windshield washer. The jar that goes into the bracket should have a "Truck See Clear" sticker. I don't know about '55, but the earlier ones had a foot operated pump.
I believe the OEM option system used a manual pump you operated with your foot(?) that was notorious for splitting and soaking the floor. I'm using the rez and built in pump from a Mazda Miata. It's clean, compact, mounts to a flat surface, and self contained.
I had a 59 Ranchero that had a plastic/rubberized(??) bag that hung on a bracket under the hood and a foot pump on the drivers side floor board. The thing worked great.
I've also seen the vacuum jar kind.....my 49 Pontiac had a big glass jar with a vacuum actuator on top and a vacuum switch on the dash. You would hold the switch open and charge the bottle, when you released the switch it would pump water on the windshield. The longer you charged the jar, the more spray you would get.
I havent thought about what I might do on my F1.....too many other things to consider first

yes, it was an option for all years '53-56 i think. It was foot operated and there was a glass jar under the hood. I have seen them on ebay over the last couple of years.
Abe, I agree with you. The 1956 brochure advertises the "See-Clear" windshield washer option as a foot-operated pump that squirts washer fluid on the windshield. I don't have brochures from the earlier years but I recall seeing some literature that backs up your comment.
Yes it was a dealer installed option. The 53-55's used a glass bottle wile the 56's used a plastic bag that hung from the drivers side inner fender. The orignal spray nozzle was mounted 6" from the cowl on the hood. It is chrome and it has two spray holes in it and it is different than the nozzle that the 55-56 cars used.
My hood has the chrome diamond shaped nozzle, but that's all that's left the PO prolly thru the rest away when they firesawed off the inner fender panels to flip the front end
Since I'm front hinging the hood I'll likely mount the rez and pump on the air deflector.
