Security System advice.......

I normally don;t post on the SD side of FTE usually keep on the 6.0 PSD side but I figured this would be the place to go for some info on alarm systems. WHat would you guys recommend to protect my new 06 F-250 Lariat CC W/ Chrome Package and 20" wheels. I am looking to add a Pioneer AVIC-D1, Amp, Subs and the rest of teh none yards. But, b4 that I want to know that she will be secure b4 I sink the cash into her. Any input is welcome and thanks in advance. I am leaning more toward a responder/2way system with a lcd screen to steer you guys the direction I wanna head! Thanks!

The only three brands I would recommend are DEI(Viper,Clifford), CompuStar, or Astroflex. These three are the powerhouses of the industry. All three offer two-way systems with many options and expandability, as well as LCD key fobs. All three also have the remote start option available as part of their two-way systems. I would also invest in Jimmi Jammer's for your doors.

I am currently getting a Compustar put in my truck. Model 2wssr with remote start and alarm. It has a range of a 1.25 miles. I already have the remote start part (screwed up and forget to say i wanted both duhhh). It works great, and very glad i got it.

Goes back in at end of month to change out the computer and alarm parts installed. Then I can set up a mobile office in the truck for estimating etc.

Ps- if you want a pic of remote size etc just let me know

These are certainly HIGH quality alarm systems.

Just wanted to mention about the CompuSTAR alarm systems. Was reading on their website that NO warranty if you purchase the alarm system online. Here is a quote from the website.

...Firstech does not condone or support Internet sales of any kind. Which means, we will not offer warranty service or tech-support for online purchases. This is simply because the history of the product is unknown and we cannot guarantee its quality.
Again...just a FYI...

I just had a Viper installed yesterday. Alarm, remote start & turbo timer. All work really well. Claims the remote works from a quarter mile but I'm too lazy to walk that far to try it.

This is actually true of all three that I mentioned. All three require installation by an authorized dealer. You can buy any of them online, but if you self-install, you're on your own for technical support and the warranty is void.

The cost for my remote start (like i said before, i screwed up and didnt get alarm on) was 289.99 Install price was 85...so total was 374.99 The alarm remote start I think it was around $550 installed. Since I was dumb I might loose some money due to getting the wrong system the first time around. I bought it at a local car audio store Extreme Audio, and they installed it.

Well, no alarm in my rig but I did have Lojack installed. I like that system and so does my insurance company. My area police have the system in a couple of their cars so they can quickly find my rig if it is stolen. My only concern is there are no warning stickers for Lojack... could be good or bad... depending on the thief I suppose. I'm not sure where is is installed. When it was done at the Ford dealer, they chased the Ford employees away while they installed it. Only the Lojack reps know the location from what I gather. When in long term parking, I pull my radio plate off my AVIC N-2...

This is a good topic to have here! Thank you all for your info., looking at compustar's site, I see a range of 6000', is this the range that the remote will trigger/disarm system? Or is this the range that the LCD monitor has? Reason I ask is this..... I work Mon-Fri. out of town, approx. 45 or so miles away from where I leave my '05 PSD 6-speed daily. About once a week or so when I and my 'driver' return to the truck I/we find some 'Curious George' looking, admiring.. maybe even plotting, the truck, I recall once I found someone underneath it looking at my resivoir shock setup I run, didn't know he was there till truck was started! lol... no biggy there w/ him, but we are not all created equally, now are we? So, I guess what I'm trying to ask here is will my pager/key fob show me the details I need, if I am THAT far away from truck? Or will it show them as I get closer to truck in range? And............ notice above I typed 6-speed? Is there an option that bypasses the clutch or similar? I've read in here that this setup is hard to find. tyvm in advance... looking forward to the replies on my situation. (No alarm as of yet). D'oh, IF I were to get the system w/ the remote start feature, can alarm still be used and NOT start the truck, say.... while parked somewhere inside? thnx again!!! :-)

I will try to answer what i can. The 6000ft is the range the remote can communicate with the truck (both ways). When i push the start button on the remote it sends a signal to the truck. After the truck is started it sends a signal back to the remote, and the the remote shows the truck started. I have started my truck from at least a half mile already (also started while sitting in movie theatre 100 yards away from my truck). There has been a couple times when the signal got sent to the truck...but the return signal didn't get back to the remote. So i wasn't sure if it was started till i looked at the truck (or hit the system check button on the remote).

Will the system page you from 45 miles away...no (but i think there are other manufacturer alarms you can hook to a cell phone to do that). I dont think the alarm will log alarms on your vehicle. Meaning if you leave your truck at 7 am and dont get back to till 6pm, and someone bumped it at 2 pm (and alarm sounded) you wouldn't be able to tell. Unless scratched etc of course. Now if you get within a mile of your truck and you hit the query function (system check) and alarm is going off at that time it would display that.

yes you can just use the alarm, or just use the remote start. You can also just buy one or the other. And it works on manuals also.
