i installed a set of autometer guages and im seeing very high trans temps, but i have a buddy with the auto enginuity scan tool and it read 50 degrees lower than my guage. does anyone know how accurate the scan tools are or is a guage failure a common thing? i also installed the tru-cool max and now it takes longer to get up to hot temps 210 degrees but still gets that hot. thats why i am thinking it is the guage. where does the scanner get its reading from? i just want to be sure before i pull my guages apart and send in my trans guage for the warranty
thanks

The scanner has to get it from a sensor. if all your connections are correct and good i would, like u said, send the gauge back because it's probably faulty.

I have both the AutoMeter trans temp guage and the AutoEnginuity OBDII Scan Tool. My temp guage and ScanTool reads within 10* of each other (only because it's pretty tough to read 10* at the botton of the AutoMeter guage ), it may be closer than that.
i just installed my autometer guages pyro works good and so does boost but im unsure how accurate my trans temp guage is, it kinda stays in the same location. whats the normal running temp for highway driving on the trans, lets say doing 70

How hot is it where u live? Do u have aux tranny cooler?
i was hoping my guage was wrong. i diddnt think i should be seeing 210 when its in the teens here this time of year and especially with the aux trans cooler unless my bypass valve or stock cooler is plugged. does the sender wire have anything to do with the reading, say it was too close to something hot would that throw off readings?

just for comparison... i run a big tru-cool tranny cooler with the stock coolers still on... since the temp has gone below 30* around here i have not had the tranny temp get to 100*... close, when i was plowing, but not quite there...
i had my autometer boost gauge go out about 2 weeks ago..really nice folks..it was still under warranty (9 mo old) so i expect to have a new one back from them in a dew days..hope you got your receipt.
thanks guys i called autometer and they are going to send me a new guage and all i have to do is send back the parts i dont use. i hope thats the problem and my stock cooler or bypass isnt plugged but i think its the guage
thanks for you help guys i found out what the problem was. it was the installer (me). for some reason i diddnt ground the guage. what was strange is that the guage would act like it was reading correctly. take a while to get hot and then rise slowly from there. i gorunded the guage and it doesnt get over 125 now. im glad thats all the problem was. i dont know what i was thinkin
