I have a 390, it has a 4 barrel and intake mani. If i were to port the heads, get better headers, and swap in the 428 crank how much power and tourque could i hope to have? If i was to bore it .060 over and put better pistons and connectors in with a mild street cam how much power could i be hoping for?
I'm not sure about everything, but I know .060 over would not be a good idea. You'll have troubles with overheating, and less block stability. I don't believe anything over .030 or .040 over would be beneficial.
Okay it is now a 410 not a 390 so you now stroked it which is what i'm doing to mine you will have more hp and tq. unless you want to spend money on premium gas you'll need to keep your compression down to 10:1. The heads you have will be fine but if you put new pistons in you'll have to stay with flat tops you can get oversized 390 pistons or get 410 pistons the cam as long as it's a split which it be better mechanical will get you more power over a hydro aluminum intake and 4barrel will help also. So anyway you should hopefully if built right have around 400 hp tq i'm sure possible 400+
I am building a mildly built 390, about what you are looking at, i changed the stroke to the 428 crank, here is a copy of my hp/tq sheet off of dyno2000:
i have a 260 duration cam with .550 lift, 9.5:1, and the c8ae-h heads. with headers, and 4-v 700cfm induction. These numbers should be pretty acurate. I could get it closer with knowing the actual cam and how your heads will flow.
The cam i'm getting if i remember has 260 duration but 663 lift with my heads which are the same as your's i have to use flat top pistons which will put it at 10.1 and i'm going to use roller rocker's instead of the stock rocker.
Well you can get those pricey cj valves then have the shop make your valve seats fit those valves and that can get pricey but i think just normal stainless steele valves and porting your heads will be just fine
how much can i overbore? or should i not overbore? also is there a specific cam i should look into purchasing? i want a mild to an aggressive cam, and there is just so many out there i need someone to point me in the right direction atleast! my goal in power is to be atleast at 400hp/400tq if possible i would like more like 500hp/500tq.. is there anywhere that i could get a 428FE?
Well this is where i'm getting some of my stuff DSCMotorsports. My best suggestion is go to the machine shop your having your block done at and tell him what you want to do he will point you to which cam to use and pistons to use and yes you can bore it a little first find out if it is still on the standard bore and go from there no more than .40 over at the most.

.663" lift??????What kinda valve spring can deal with that?
