I went to time my trcuk and right away I noticed that my vaccum advance was seized and not working at all..so I got a new distributor and dropped it in and timmed it to 12 degrees (factory spec I believe) now it runs was ****tier, and when you get on the throttle for a second and then letoff right away it will die, or say if you start ripping down the road andthen let off the gas and then brake fairly hard it will die sometimes too....I dont know what to think...and what do you guys have your timing set at?
You didn't say what kind of carburetor you have, but a few years back I had a similar problem with my Nissan. Turns out it was the BCDD (Boost-Controlled Deceleration Device). When I removed my foot from the gas to decelerate, the engine starved of gas and would stall. Otherwise it ran fine.
The BCDD functions as an auxiliary idle circuit that is activated by the high manifold vacuum which occurs when you decelerate with your foot off the accelerator. Under these conditions, your motor is turning much faster than it is at idle, and the idle circuit can't feed it enough mixture to fill the cylinders enough for anything approaching complete combustion to occur.
In other words, you might want to take a look at carburation instead of timing.
Still, it sounds like carburation to me, but maybe someone with more experience than I has a better idea. Other similar carburation mechanisms used to be called "dashpots". Could be caused by a vacuum leak.
yes I know I spelt timing wrong...but yes vacuum was disconnected and I dunno if it was at 650 that seems pretty low, whatever my idle is set at is what the timing was set at....is 12 degrees the proper setting?
