so i changed power steering pullys yesterday, the one i put onto the truck is a double pully for an on board air system im creating. i think i got teh pully ALL the way on but im getting a chirp about every .5 seconds. the pullys seem to be aligned and the belt spins fine with no obvious signs of wear or rubbing. any suggests? thanks
I'm assuming that the squeak was not there before and there now, hence you looking at the PS belt. Maybe it just needs a little wear-in time. Otherwise, I'd check the alignment.
yea, sorry. this is a NEW squeek. it's a new pully as well. i'm thinking, read: hoping, that the pully had some paint or coating on the inside, were it presses to the steering shaft and that just has to wear off. i'm going to try and see if i can get the pully on farther tomorrw. any other input?
chrono? did you mean scuff up the outside of the pully, where the belt sits on the pully or the inside of the pully where it is pressed onto the shaft?
ok i scuffed it up a bit and it didn't help. i discovered today that it isn't the new pully. it's actually my air pump pully/air pump. i had this problem before and was able to fix it by tightening the pully on the air pump. that didn't work this time. i think i'll be changing the air pump tomorrow. i asumed it was the new pully because the squeek started right after i added the pully. also a quick question. the new pully is a double pully and weighs a good bit more than the stock pully. i'm guessing 3-4 times the weight of the stock pully. would i be able to feel a power loss. i don't seem to have the same acceleration as before i changed the pully.
i got a new smog pump today, installed that. went to take a look at the new pully i put on the power steering pump it seemed a bit lose. i took it off and went to put it back on and the "install tool" for the pully was stripped at one spot and wasn't allowing me to seat the pully all the way on. so as of now i have to go get a new install tool. i'm praying that this will fix everything.
