Hi All,
I have to replace a temp. guage sending unit on my '91 FI 300 I6. I know where it is (rt side, upper back of block, hidden under the intake), but ... Can't see it from the top, can see it from the bottom but can't seem to reach it (starter, exaust pipe), can see it from the RT wheel well but fender well in the way ... So how have you all handled this replacement?
There are two different ways to go about doing this.
One is to get at it from the top of the engine, leaning over the fenderwell on the passenger side. It's a stretch, but I've done it. Be prepared to mop up some coolant.
The other way is to pull the starter and get it from underneath. If you don't mind the effort involved in pulling the starter, this way is much easier. Be prepared to mop up slightly less coolant than the first method.

My wonderful and only brother prefers to "work harder, not smarer." In his own words.
"When you are 51 years old working smart is a lot easier on your back" - as well as many other body parts! At 52 I find it harder and harder to get up off the floor after lying under the truck to fix this or that. I'm not complaining too much though as I simply can't afford the outrageous labour costs at the shops. I definitely agree that as I age it becomes more important to "work smarter" and plan the jobs as efficiently as possible.
