I just bought a 77 150 4x4' the gut i bought it from said it has a 360 from a 76 in it, any way i was just wondering if someone could tell me what size axles the 77 came out with, and if i were to put a 6inch lift and 35's on it if the stock axles and 360 would be good enough?
The axles on your truck should be D44 up front and a 9 inch rear. it is a auto or 4 spd? and yes the 360 is fine if you think you might want a lil more power you can put in a RV cam and put header's on it. that would be within your budget if you have one.
it'll be enuf till you get passed... lol they're some pretty inexpensive ways to get good poer from an FE, check out that forum and the boys will be more than happy to spend your money... LMAO
That may be but i doubt if he making a speed demon out of it. Also along with a cam and header's if you want you can put on a aluminum intake and 4barrel. Those combinations will help get you more without spending alot of money. Anything you do is depending on what you want to do with it and how much your willing to spend to get the power you want.
Well that depends on what your gonna do with it but as yeha4x4 pointed out move upto at least 4.10 or 4.11's my 76 in my gallery has 35's but it came with 4.10's np 435 and a 205 and if you have the money why not put in LS at least when you move up to 4.10's and you will have to have a shop do the work for you because there is alot of work in changing out gears unless you know anything about pinion depth the right amount shims and have the proper tools to it.

If the your 360 needs rebuilt, I would just rebuild it as a 390. Very easy to do. 390 crank, rods, and use 360 pistons. That will make more power and torque than the 360 will.
I agree with building it up to a 390 and as far as gears go I have a NP435 and a 205 T-case and I use my truck mainly off road and I had 4.11 gears installed in the back with a detroit locker and I beleive it is 4.10 in the front. That works good for me even on the highway but I have 33" tires. When I first added the 33's with my stock 3.50 gears I had to use granny to pull away from a stop if the ground was not level. Now 2nd gear take offs are no problem. If I went to 35's I think I would go 4.56. What ever route you go it's not cheap so make sure you get what you need the first time.
4.56 gears with 35's in my opinion are too much. On my F-250 I run 4.10's with 36" tires with a C-6 and it works fine. In my Bronco I run 3.54's with 35's with a C-6 but it still is not a dog.
Ranger that may be fine for you with the c6 but I have a 435 W/granny first so I like to take off in 2nd gear. Nativejammer probably has the same trans I do and only has a 360 with a 2 barrel on it. So thats what I based my thoughts on.
Ranger question for you, i have a 77 1/2 f250 x4x4 460 c6 4:10s seems to top out about 80mph or so. How does yours run with the 35's on it. I'm looking for better cruse than ofroading it. I use one of my cj's for that the truck is just way toooo big to go anywhere. Thanks Bob

My Bronco with the 35's runs real nice on the highway. The speedo stops at 80 and I am 5 MPH off with the tire size but it will cruise easily at 85 on the interstates.
Now My F-250 with the 429/4.10's and 36's I don't even bother trying to get a top speed out of it. It basically is my Sunday driver so I just use it to cruise. I would be willing to bet tho it is about the same as yours, top speed around 80 or 85. Stoplight to stoplight tho WATCH OUT, she is like a bat outa hell!
