I have a hitch, but was wondering if I should add a ball to it and leave it in. I have been rear ended twice in the past year, and with the new truck, I am less than exntusiastic at the thought of another one, if it ever happens...I sure hope not... Anyways, would this lessen damage or do i risk more. I'd probably get the stainless steel. Don't they get stuck a lot in the receiver though? Would it not get stuck if i clean the receiver tube out every time i wash it? I tow trailers less now so I don't absolutely need the hitch and ball all the time.... keep it in or just 'park' it in the garage...? Also, would a garage door have enough down force to really damage any bumper brackets under it's own power? I accidently closed the garage on the truck today...did no visible damage, good thing...got to love not paying attention... And one last question, I was washing up everything with dawn under the hood to get the silicone off everything from the dressing, and popped off the overflow reservoir top and cleaned around it, but accidently got a tiny bit of dawn in the tank... think it's okay, or should i flush...doubt it, just can't be too careful...thanks...
the hitch won't get stuck. you can just leave it in all the time. also a garage door only has 150 lbs closing force. when i did garage doors we stood under it and closed it on are shoulder to set the force. its not enough to harm anything.
You don't think it'll rust itself to the hitch?? Anybody know if dawn affects coolant at all, the yellow stuff?? thanks...at least i didn't drive through the garage door...ha...that's worse
Well, To overestimate it, i'd say about a pencil eraser amount to maybe a dime... not much at all.... Random question, can my warranty be void if i use just regular 85 oct. gas when it reccomends 87? The service person at the station said i should be using 87.... I doubt it...manual says 87, but it runs perfectly fine on 85... Every time i go in, they want me to get 87... Maybe a way for more money on them?? hmm...
The drawbar on my hitch has frozen in place twice. Once I had to drive it out with a two pound ball peen hammer and once I had to use a come-along and the hammer. A liberal coating of grease on the drawbar has stopped this problem. Some of you guys must not drive on salty roads.
You engine has a knock sensor on it to prevent pre-ignition if you use sub-standard fuel. If you featherfoot around with your truck, you may not notice any difference in the running or fuel milage. If you're harder on the gas pedal, there probably will be a difference.
if you leave the tongue and ball in, it will do more damage to the other vehicle, most likely a hole in the bumper or grille area but the other vehicle will still get to the bumper of your truck and maybe the tailgate depending on what hits you. i wouldn't worry about the soap unless you were going to use soap for coolant then i'd say you had a problem. lol. i used to leave my tongue and ball in all the time and i live on the southside of chicago with lots of salt in the winter, mine never got stuck, way to much space.
I believe that in MA (and maybe other states, too) it is against the law to drive around with the ball-mount in and no trailer attached. I've heard of people getting ticketed for it, but only when they'd done something to tick off the cop first.
thanks for the replies... I got a ball and drove around with it for a while, went home, and it didn't fit in the garage, but it isn't that hard to unlock so, I think I will keep it. Plus it looks nice...
