I have a '77 F150 2wd 351M 4 speed (granny first) cast-iron bellhousing. The truck suffered an engine fire. What transmission is this? NP 435, T-18? I would like to install this transmission in my '76 F250 4x4. It has a 390 C6 with an NP203. Will this swap work without too much trouble? I would probably need a different tail shaft for the divorced transfer case drive shaft since the 2wd tail shaft has a slip joint. Also a new mount on the cross member. Not to mention the pedals and linkage from the donor truck. I really like manual transmissions. Is this swap feasible or too much to get into? Thanks for any help.
you'll need a different bellhousing too, and a flywheel, clutch, clutch linkage, plus all what you mentioned. I'd look elsewhere for a direct-swappable tranny from the same type donor truck. maybe grab the burnt truck for other parts to use or sell.
Thanks havi. I thought the bellhousing was the same as a C6. I do plan to part it out as my friend has a '74 F100. The problem with a direct bolt in is, I believe NP203's only had C6's in front of them. Can anyone tell me what transmission came in this truck? It is still in the truck. I don't have any numbers.
would be the same as a c6, if the c6 was behind a 390. np435 top covers are made of aluminum, the t18's were cast. Reach up there with a small magnet and see if it sticks real hard. Also, the stamping on the top should indicate what it is too. NP encircled would indicate 435. Not positive, but on the side should be a raised stamping of T-18 if it's a t18. Atleast my 86 f250 had it stamped on there. Not sure about 203's, but most highboys I know had divorced NP205's
well tomcasino, I've seen NP203 adapters(between tranny and t case on a married 203)that mated to a standard. NP435 I believe, so some 203s may have came behind standards.
I could take off the cover in the cab and check the top of the transmission for numbers. I still will be pulling the transmission in the Spring regardless what model it is. I can always sell it. I recently put a clutch in it. My '75 F250 also had a C6 with an NP203. Thanks for the information.
