2.9 problems possible tranny too

Alright well here's the story. Lately my tranny (what I think to be tranny) has been whining when in reverse and drive (auto) and if I am going around 50 or so and have it in neutral and rev it a little, around 3500 rpm's I can feel power is getting to the wheels and when I go over that I can maintain speed around 4500 rpms so the neutral is messed up.

Well I was on my home today from pulling my cousin out (that's a whole other story) and I notice a bunch of smoke behind me (it was dark and I could only see it because there was a car behind me and I didn't see what color it was) and I came to a stop sign and I had to go because traffic was really bad so when I try to go my tranny was slipping and I had to try several times to get it to go and it finally did and smoke was coming up again and I noticed oil pressure going down so I pulled into a parking lot (another 1/2 mile driving) and there was a line of oil that had been following me I don't know how far and I think whatever was left spilled out on the ground because there was a huge oil puddle. I crawled under the truck after calling AAA and it looks like the majority of the oil came in between the tranny and back of the engine, I don't know this for sure though. There's also a tube looking thing by the tranny that had a drop of oil and on the crossmember there was a lot of oil on it so I also suspect oil came out of that tube. If anybody can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated I would run key on engine off codes but not KOER because I don't want to risk starting it. This is also my only truck and I'll be borrowing a car from my grandma in order to get to work.

I had oil leaking out in the exact same place when i fried my transmission offroad, the front seal on the trans went, thats why it was leaking oil on mine. Turns out to be the least of my worrys for that trans..id like to see myself break the C6 i have in there now! But id check out that front seal on the trans and see if that went, they also have a tendency to expand when hot and leak that way as well. Hope this helps some

Is it oil or trans fluid? My 88 2.9/auto done the same thing awhile back. It got low on oil so I put some in no big deal. But in less than two days I was driving it, and it started running real rough, smoking out the back, and the oil pressure dropped way down. I got home but sounded bad the next day I checked and the oil did not even show on the dipstick. It had oil standing on top of the engine and all over the bottom of the truck, clear back to the rearend even on the rear door.
I talked to a guy that is a mechanic at a Ford dealer and he said these were bad about intake gaskets. So I filled it up with and took it to him(at home) he checked it and replaced the intake gaskets and it has been fine ever since.

So now the question is, should I start taking it apart? I have nothing to do tomorow and if it is intake gasket how much would the gasket be? And how far down do you think I'd have to take things apart?

It was oil that I had, that's what it smelled and looked like. I looked under my truck and it coated the whole underside with oil. Any tips/suggestions when taking it apart?

Find where the leak is first.
