All right here is the problem. I go out and start my pickup and drive to work (it is about 10 miles) when i get to work i shut it off and if i have to start it up right after it will not have the juice to start. It will turn over but like it has a dead battery. Now here is the weird part, if i let it sit for about two to three hours and come out and try to start it, it will start right up. I have replaced the battery, aultnator and relay switch. So what do you think it could be. Any help would be great.
Could be the starter going bad but I would check all the connection from the batter to the solenoid and on to the starter. Be sure the starter is tight.

LLind,
Classic symptom of advanced timing. I set my truck up hot/advanced and I have the same problem. I went out and bought a 1000 Cold Cranking Amp Battery and it still does it. Your truck will be slower if you retard it and it will start hot. Your choice.
Good Luck, Have Fun,

Just something I've run into numerous times. Are you using those cheap aftermarket clamp the cable battery clamps? I've seen many vehicles exhibit the same symptoms using those clamps. What happens is the clamp will look tight but after taking the strap off that holds the cable in the clamp I would find evidence of the cable arcing in there. Replaced the cable completely with a new one and the problem was eliminated. Just something to look at if you happen to be using them. Good luck
I have the exact same truck and had the exact same problem. The way I fixed it was: I went to a store that specialized in alternators/starters. There is a '77 starter that came out later that year. The guy told me the early models had problems. I installed the new starter and wham. Never a problem since. Hope this helps.
i have a 78 F250 that seems to be doing the same thing. One day it will start fine and drive perfect all day long, and then i will try to start it up and it acts like the battery is dead.
Did you notice while you had this problem, while you were driving your lights start to dim and your radio stop working?
Did you test your starter at all when you found out it was bad or did you just swap it out?
let me know, i surely would like to get this problem fixed on my truck
I have a 78'F150. Same prob. If you have a 400cid? This might help.
I bought my truck from the original owner. Who had retired the truck to a farm. Needless to say, the mantenance was lacking the last couple of years before I bought it. Any who. I found the same starting problem going on. Bought new batt.(high cca batt.) ,new starter, new relay, new coil and timed it. Worked well for about a week. Remembering that I had taken off and dicarded (a needless) heat shield. I remedied the problem with a home made double shieled, heat shield. It still turns a little slower once it's hot. But it always starts.
