hi i have a 78 f-150 with a 351m how much horsepower and torque could i expect to gain out of an edelbrock 4v manifold and an edelbrock 4 barrel carb and a set of headers.... the reason i'm asking is that my truck will haul *** from 20 to 60 ( when the transmission downshifts from 2nd to 1st( 3.50 gears) but up until it downshifts.I have no take off power what so over from a dead stop and the engine doesn't bog down or anything so will these parts help?
also any opinions on these parts plus 2v cleveland heads.... what kind of torque am i looking at?
Invest a few minutes searching through this forum. You'll find that your questions have been asked many times before and the wealth of information that comes from users both past & present will provide you with tons of food for thought on ways to get maximum performance out of your engine.
before you go the "add new parts" route, have you verified that the vacuum advance and the centrifugal advance in the distributor are working properly? verified that the trans is starting off in first? has the carb ever been gone through, does it give a good accel pump shot? any of these common problems can cause less than spectactular performance, sometimes all of these and more problems are present at the same time! i know an F series with a 351M is not Nascar material to begin with, there is quite a bit of potential for improvement but everything needs to be functioning before adding more variables. have you considered a stall converter? even a stock converter for a 6 cyl will have a slightly higher stall than the correct converter for your 351 and should be pretty reasonable in price. is it a C6 trans?
yes everything is like it should be and yes it has the c6 but i just had a 429cj come available to me so i think this will solve the problem lol
thanks
