recommended oil ??? sorry for double post still new
I have a 1992 5.8 4x4 flareside .I got truck with 53,000 mi in 2000.
Now has 112,000 and runs great.I have always changed oil every 3000 or less
and have been using pensoil high milage 10-30. I live in upstate NNY with temp swings from -30 to 90 .My ? is would sythenic help reduce wear and save gas on cold start days and if so what should I use ,also if I switch can I just do a normal oil change over to sythenic.I have done some upgrades as superchip,km breather, excel coil, bosch quad fire plugs.Best milage was drive last week from Delware to NY aver spd 63 and got almost 19mpg with huds(manual unlocked)
also have tonneau cover

Reason: messed up
amsoil is a good sythenic. it is most costly than other sythenics. a friend of mine has ran it in his buick since the car has been new (i think its a 98) and every time he changes oil it looks almost as clean as it was when he put it in
I myself will usually change to a lighter weight oil this time of year (only problem is ,as of now its more like spring than winter) to help with those cold starts. I've used a syn blend a few times but anymore I just go with the 10-30 or the lighter.
thanks for input eric see you have rail in pic i own a 1968 vw setup on barrem frame
1600 cc it a blasts had added lots of chrome for show drive ever summer on /off road
Some of the UOA reports show higher wear metals with synthetic, then dino oil. Based on this, I would say stay with your dino oil, but, if you think you can benefit from a synthetic, use anything BUT AMSOIL!

Here we go again... To each his own.

Amsoil doesn't own their own dinosaurs like "Mobile" does!
