I have a 1978 ford exployer pickup [package I guess]. It has a few parts that are not on a regular pickup. I can not find one like it anywhere. Can someone tell me where I can locate another truck for parts? Is this a hard to find truck?
LAST EDITED ON 17-Oct-01 AT 00:17 AM (EST)[p]I just bought a 79 Explorer F150 tonight. I've been looking through web pages and pictures of these trucks all night tonight and you are the only other person I've found with an Explorer so far.
Mine has a 2 barrel 302, 9 inch rear, automatic(not sure which yet) and factory air. It still has the original factory rims and hub caps and the previous owner kept the original radio for me also. Mine is going to need a lot of help. After working for the last 6 years on a 65 mustang fastback and 4 years before that on a 70 model 429 Ranchero GT I am wondering what I have done, LOL.
I have a 69 F100 Explorer. I think the Explorer package was first offered in 68 or 69. My truck is identical to a Ranger from the outside, and has the Ranger badges on the bedsides and the grille. As near as I can tell, all the Explorer package added was some additional fake woodgrain in the interior door, and a badge that says "Explorer" instead of "Ranger" on the glove box door.
I have another mouth to feed. We finally managed to drag my truck home today. It fell off the trailer ramps 3 times before we got it loaded. I'm going through the HOLY CRAP, what in the world was I thinking? phase right now. Actually its not as bad as it seems. My neighbor from down the hill said the old truck looks good from about 50 feet away, LOL. I think I'm just going to let it sit for a while and get used to being in my yard. The first thing I need to fix is the transmission that only moves in reverse. Its definitely a C4 or C5 but I'm not for sure which.
And thus the love hate relationship begins between you and your truck ...+ battles with your woman about how "you love that truck more than love me...."

What are you looking for ?
I have a few extra parts.
I forgot to mention, that I am the Original owner of this truck with all sorts of literature to reference from.
The Explorer package option included :
Body Stripes > Headliner > Hood emblem > Upolstery >Carpeting>
It was about a $1500.00 OPTION
Damn, tetraruby, you get that too?
Man oh man do I ever get a lot of that. I guess thats what a classic ford will do to you eh?
My girlfriend is ALWAYS saying how I spend more time fixing my truck than being with her.
The girls just don't understand! Although a few times my girlfriend will help me out, when I let her get near my truck! It did lead to some Good memories though!

LAST EDITED ON 19-Oct-01 AT 00:42 AM (EST)[p]Well I haven't started a list yet but one thing instantly comes to mind. Both the plastic door panels are busted so I need those in dark blue. I requested a catalog from Dennis Carpenter but any other places that deal in parts for these trucks would be good to know about also.
I need to know definitely for sure if the truck has a C5 or a C4. It has an H servo if that means much. I was hoping to use my old mustang C4 to get it up and rolling until I can rebuild the trucks transmission but it may not work. My old C4 uses a 157 tooth flexplate and 10 1/2 bolt circle and the truck may be 164 and 11 inch considering its a 1979 and probably has a C5. That means the bell housing and converter wouldn't bolt up right either. I suppose I could swap the bellhousing if that would work and I have an old 28 ounce 157 tooth flexplate I could also use. I still would need a 24 spline input shaft and a 24 spline 10 1/2 bolt circle converter for what I have. Sheesh.
Mac, Ford trucks with 302s mostly came with C4s. The C4 has a bolt on bell. As far as I know the C6 was the only other auto offered and the would have a one piece case. Never heard of a C3 or 5 in at truck of that vintage.

Hey, it's me again. I'm the guy who started this thread. Just got back tonight. My Exployer is an F-100 short bed with factory air, automatic, Original radio, 302, side rails, upgraded interior. I don't have the original wheels but they are the expensive ones. I bought it from the original owner who I worked with in 1978. I paid a thousand bucks for it here in Florida this year. I need a exployer name for the glove compartment door and the exployer emblem on the hood. I have one but it's starting to corrode. If I knew how to send a picture on the forum I would so. Talk to me......

I have a few parts kicking around for my *EXPLORER* note spelling.
I had a glove box and Hood emblem.
For a look at the hood emblem you can look my photo on the
general discussion board under , *Post a picture of your truck*
Scroll down to the *mil1ion* post and you'll see it .
Too bad you didn't need green door panels as I have those too.
If there is anything else, let me know.

I have a 77 F150 4x4 Explorer that my dad bought new. It's silver with blue stripes, which were Explorer only.It also has white trim on the blue door panels,a pleated blue headliner, blue carpet, emblems on rear of box,and hood ornament.I was glad to see Dennis Carpenter reproducing the hood ornament as they were almost impossible to find.I just knew some lowlife was gonna rip it off for a necklace! I'm getting mine back from the paint shop Monday and then taking it to a detail shop who promises me they can build and install the correct color/size stripes.Good luck with yours-I think the Explorer is pretty unique.

If you like I have good photo's of exactly where the striping has to go.
I recommend having a Professional Trim Striper do it as opposed to painting the stripes on.
If that's what you were implying.
