Anyone have a recommendation on a good headache rack for my '99 350? I'm getting really tired of replacing the rear window!
I need something that is designed to take a beating (not just look good - it actually needs to be functional). However, I would also LIKE it to look good.
I've seen a few going down the road that looked very nice AND heavy duty. The style I like the best has oval shaped lights integrated in the rack for turn signals, brakes, and back-up/bed lights (not sure what the clears were for).
Obviously, I couldn't get any of the guys to pull over and tell me where they got their racks.
Check out Highway Products or Protech. They primarily mfg toolboxes and cabinets for tractor/trailer apps. But I believe I've seen alum. headache racks with intergrated brake/turn lights.
Try looking at south texas outfitters... I bit far for you to buy from, but perhaps they can give you idea of something you want made... southtexasoutfitters.com
Here is a picture of one of their headache racks with backup lights and turn lights. The picture is bad, but its the only one that shows the rack in it. http://x11.putfile.com/1/001454586.jpg
I fabricated my own out of some 2" square tubing and 2" angle iron. I have a 48 inch light bar on the top of the rack and then my truck box sits on top of it to help hold the rack on. I'll be looking to add brake/turn and backup lights as soon as I get a chance. I'm always doing some modification to it as to make things easier and more functional for me.
