We have a 1989 ranger extended cab 4X4 this truck is great as long as the road is smooth As soon as it gets a little rough or slick this truck is all over the road even at speeds as low as 25mph. This is my fathers truck and I would really like to get this problem fixed. it has new tires on it the frontend has been rebuilt and alligned trying to fix this problem. I am considering putting new shocks on it after reading some of the posts in this colum but I cant see them making enough difference. I just replaced the shocks in my 65 they were not working at all and it did not have this handling problem. I am hoping some one has been able to fix this problem with theirs.
What do you mean by "all over the road"? Do you actually lose control and it slides or is it just hard to drive in a straight line? Do you have power steering?
Any unusual noises, etc., on the rough terrain?

Dad almost lost control on the ice ther other day which is why I started this thread. From when I was driving it the backend seems to bounce all over and if you are not paying attention it will go out of control. It is no fun having to make constant corrections to keep it in a straight line.
Yeah new shocks will fix it right up, an 89, it probably needs them by now, just buy some (you don't have to spend a fortune) and get them on there, you can do it easily, and it'll fix your problem right up.
