DirecTV or Dish network?

I had Dish for a few years when the reciever took a dump. They didn't want to send me a new one w/o charging me $$ so I called Direct and got one of their free offers. My direct reciever is starting to die, so I am playing the game all over again.

What do you guys have, and have you had better luck with one over the other?

Directv-but buy the maintaince plan. Its like $5 a month but you dont get no BS when anything dies. Call them and see if you can upgrade your plan before it goes haywire. 1-800-347-3288 Good Luck

Off the air and DVD is the best choice.

Better yet - get real old fashioned and build up a library.

Why pay for what C. J. Cherryh called "Haikktakt"?

(Random behaviour that has nothing to do with survival)

Dish has the home protection plan, $5.99/mo. You can add or cancel it at any time. I'm pretty happy with Dish, but my wife works there (techie), so I might be a little prejudiced.

Dish seems a lot more install friendly as regards "Wall Fishing".
They diplex their lines.

It's a lot more capable system.

Had Direct for many years but switched over to Dish last year because they gave me a free HDTV receiver. I asked Direct for one and they said loyalty meant nothing. I see they now offer the same deal as Dish except they still make you sign up for a year on the receiver. No Contracts with Dish, I like that and the monthly fees are about the same.
I would never waste my money on a service contract. Last time my Direct receiver went out they sent me a free replacement, I just had to have a year commitment with it.
As for your question, go with which ever will give you the best deal to fill your need as the service is about the same with either one.

I hated being a pawn in the Dish vs 'the world' game Ergen likes to play with channels we watch; so I dropped Dish and went with DirecTV.

You can buy a $99 DVR and get a $100 rebate right now. Or, call DirecTV's "retention" department and see what they will do for you.

Interesting, Directv just switched from Music Choice to XM. . . I've had Directv for about 4 years now, and have been happy with it. But I would try Dish when equipment starts going sour or when I finally make the jump to a HDTV.

Directv all the way. My mom has Dish I have Directv. It's amazing how many channels she would have to pay extra for to get that is included in my basic package. I have to agree with a couple others too, service plans are a joke. They'll give you equipment just for re-signing, no need to waste monthly payments on something free.
