Hi guys, Question should or is ABS working while using 4x4. The abs light on the dash was flashing so the censor is replaced. Still the light ABS is on. Also without using 4x4. Ford f 250diesel. xlt 2000. In my former truck a Chev Silv I could always hear the Abs making that RRRRRRRRRRRRR sound if it came on. Don't here this in the Ford.
You really need to have the ABS code(s) pulled. If yours is 4WABS and functions like that on my Ranger, then you cannot pull the codes without a special code reader, a generic OBD-II scanner won't cut it.
What sensor did you replace, the one on the rear diff?
P.S. The ABS light is on so it is disabled. But yes normally the ABS will work in 4x4 and WILL make the noise you heard in the Chevy...trust me, I know...I plow snow and use the ABS quite a bit.
Consider yourself lucky the ABS is not working. I pulled the fuse for mine. I just hate it. It sucks on snow. I live where we get up to 300 inches of snow in a winter and ABS sucks. You put your brake on and the stupid thing goes off and it takes foreever to get stopped. How many intersections I almost slid into when the ABS engaged. With regular brakes when you stop on snow it causes a snow plow effect, which piles the snow in front of the tire stopping you. With ABS it keeps releasing making the tire float over the snow not piling in front of the tire. I had it disabled for two years. Now I always stop right on a dime.
