54 f100 with drum brakes all around, parts catalogs have different numbers for front and rear drums when buying new ones...
I cant see any differences in the ones I have but have found that after I took all off and cleaned them up I re-installed them on my truck and they all felt good going on...adjusted o.k., but when I bolted up the rims the back rims tightened up but the front rims would not tighten all the way...they have a slight bit of slop when you shake them. You can see the movement between the drum and backing plate...this wasnt there before so I know its not bearings.
So the question I have for the experts is ......how can you look at the drums and tell where they should go if there are no I.D. numbers or marks on them??? Whats the difference in them front to back?
Yep, I figured I had them on wrong when the center caps would'nt snug up on the front ones...I'll measure to see what's what. Other than wanting the fronts bigger because they do more work, I cant think of a reason for having different sizes for the truck...other than just being a "Ford".
thanks for the info, Ed
