The trim that goes in the upper bodyline of the 73-79 ford trucks is what I'm wondering about here, if I replace my door with a door that doesnt have the metal "rivets" that the plastic trim clips slide on to how would I go about afixing the trim to the door ? would I use some small screws that I could slide the plastic clips on to ? Anyone have experience with this ?
Also how does these trim clips work I have a few plastic ones in the middle and a sheetmetal one with some sort of spring on each end of the trim, how do I mount this stuff back on once I take it off, It looks quite tricky
The sheetmetal ones are attached thru the boby with a nut on the other side.I started off with these in the trim piece, and the plastic ones attached to the body. I simply placed the studs of the metal ones thru their holes and snaped the rest in place (plastic)And as far as the plastic ones, I just riveted new ones to the body.
There is a gun some body shops have that welds on a sort of nail head for pulling out dents. It's also available from Eastwood for $239.00 unfortunately. However the catalog shows "trim tips" and a plastic clip that attatches to the tip. The clip looks a little like the small ford ones.
Yes, Dennis if you have some literature on this I would like to read, I would think you could affix the plastic ones on place with a pop rivet or screw
I pop riveted my plastic clips on also. For the spring loaded metal clips I drilled the body, but installed the clips into the back of the trim first. Then I just snapped the trim into place.
