Can you help a guy out?

I'm begging... really begging, I need donations for new rear tires.

These darn things last about a year before they have no tread left.

I don't know what's up, but I thought my V10 brethren would help out a fella in need???

dimes, quarters, dollar bills, anything...

Someone put a jar with a picture of my bologna-skin tires on the counter at Dunkin Donuts or 7-Eleven?

Please?

art k.

Just move the bald ones to the front wheels... don't need any tread up front.

They already have no wet-grip, so ... putting them in front wouldn't be a good idea, especially in winter and it ain't as heavy as a diesel in front ...

And I really don't want Firestone or Conti's, so...

I thought this joke would get a LOT more traffic !!!

What is it, everyone's on vacation or something????

Actually, in one of the other threads a post mentioned having to replace his tires in a year too. Of course in his case the tires had 70,000 miles on them. I have to suspect though that he employed a better heat dissipation strategy than yours....

I read up in the SD forum that Michelin will have 275/70 18 inch E rating tires in 07.

That means I only have a year and a bit to wear out my Contis, some people like to spell the name with a "U" which is a travesty because that demeans something which is very useful.

Is it a "U" or a "V"?

What do you think of the Conti that are on your truck. If available in 2005 and you had it to do over, would you have gotten the 20" with the Goodyear ATS. I first had those on my order then my tire guy talked me out of them saying the ATS is hard to balance and nothing like the RTS that I had been used to. So I changed my order back to the 18". Now I am hearing nothing but bad things about the Conti. Your opinion. Don H.

Actually Don, my Contis have been pretty good. They are just an all season tire and when I ordered the FX4 PKG I had to pay 370.00 CAN because that was supposed to include an A/T tire. With info from Fredvon I was able to get my 370 dollars back from my dealer which meant I only paid 3130 dollars plus tax difference for my entire truck .
The best deal I have ever made on a new vehicle.

Back to the Contis, mine are smooth and quiet, not bad on ice and rain, but I have only had them in light snow and they were just OK. In deep snow, probably poor.

On gravel roads they really hold rocks and when you get back on pavement they will sling them for quite a while. I lined my rear fender wells with 1/16" ABS and I have Huskey Mud Guards on and I have done no body damage. Watch out for this.

I only have 6000 miles on the truck and they are wearing very good, I just did a tire rotation at 5000 miles and the rear tires are down 1/16" because of spinning.

I think I just got lucky and got round ones. Many people seem to have balance and ride issues with them. All my wheel weights are very small.

To sum it up, they are as good or better as any original tire I have ever got on a new Ford pickup. I always replace with Michelin and I love the ride and handling of a Michelin tire. The way these Contis are lasting I think they will have lot's of life left in 2007. The post last night was toungue in cheek and booze in belly inspired.

Take care and I like my 18 inch wheels. Happy New Year Wrench.

I really appreciate your input on the topics I have raised. I think I am going to stick with the Conti's and buy a set of 20" OEM take offs with the Goodyears if I have trouble with my Conti's in the snow. If I do that the tires should last twice as long partially paying for buying the extra set. Living in Mich snow is an issue. I share a 1/4 mile dirt drive with 3 neighbors that gets quite a bit of snow in the winter.

The best to you and your family in 2006.

ps. nothing wrong with booze in the belly.

Don H.
