Fuel filter replacement

I want to install a new inline fuel filter on my 1998 4.0L 4x4 Explorer, the one under the truck next to the frame. Before removing the old one, I am going to first relieve the residual inline pressure as described in the maint manual. I also have that little tool needed to release the fittings on the old filter. My question is, when I remove the old filter is gas going to start to run out of the line from the fuel tank? Do I need to clamp that line somewhere before removing the old filter? Any other hints about removing and replacing this inline fuel filter with the least mess possible and for the best results would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

JD

It will not drain out of the tank, but you will get some fuel on you from the line and in the filter. It won't be a lot but make sure you don't have your face directly under the filter. Also, it is a little difficult to get the tool in the ends of the filter to release the clips so be patient and don't pull too hard untill you know the clips are released. Also, when putting the new filter back on, make sure they (the clips) click on.
