Ring Gear Help!

Some help would be greatly appreciated guys. My rear end started knocking on acceleration so I pulled the whole third member out and everything looks perfect except for half of a tooth broken on the ring gear. Do I need to replace the ring gear or could the knocking have been the metal chunks laying in the bottom of the case running through the gears. Please help asap, thanks alot.

if the ring gear has a tooth missing the pinion is also more than likely marked or damaged . and you do have to buy a ring and a pinion as a set due meshing at the factory.
