I posted this about a year ago and no one had it happen to them so I'm posting again cuz it happened to me again this weekend.
I was cruising along I-10 heading towards El Paso at night, about 95mph, and a green light flashes on and then off for a second, just below the odometer. The only other times this has happened was under similar circumstances, cruising at high speed at night.
Has anyone else ever seen this and know what it is?

I'm assuming this is for a '04. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't seem to find any light source, green or otherwise, under the odometer readout screen. Is it in the odometer readout screen? I even tried putting the odometer into test mode thinking maybe the bulb test would trigger a light, but no luck. The best I can tell by shining a flashlight on the dash is either I'm looking in the wrong spot, or my '04 doesn't have a light underneath the odometer readout screen.
One more question. About how big is this green light? The size of the green dot that seperates the miles from tenths of a mile in the odometer readout screen, or the size of a normal warning light?
It appears to be at least an inch wide, and just under the odometer. I have only caught glimpses of it because it only flashes on for a second, but it almost looks like a backlight, and it could possibly be the whole odometer lighting up.

just a thought maybe its out in left field but at 95 you pretty close to the factory speed limiter which i believe is 97 maybe your hitting the limiter and the light comes on to tell you
I think you may be right about it being the odometer screen. That's the only source for green light that I could find in that area. It could be the screen is flickering from a less than solid connection on the circuit board, the screen itself has a minor problem, or it's just a reflection that's catching your eye. And don't come driving through El Paso County or City like a madman right now, we've got an excessive amount of law enforcement out on traffic detail until after the new year.
the only green light i see on my 04 is from the cruise indicator, little circle with an arrow on it. My truck has a tuner on it been over 100 a couple times, no other light.
I've heard of that before. I think what you are seeing is actually a feature that Ford came up with for the 2003 1/2 and 2004 model year of the 6.0L PSD, but that they later simply decided not to implement. This green indicator was originally designed to replace the "Check Engine" light. Ford/Visteon left the actual lightbulb in the 6.0L PSD instrument cluster but simply masked it with the gauge face. What you are seeing is the "ENGINE OK" light which lets the driver know that the engine is having no problems. (At the exact moment of it's illumination, of course.) This explains why you rarely see this light actually "on" and that it only flickers but never stays on.
That makes sense because it does appear to be a light below the odometer, but behind the black thingy that frames all the gauges. Glad to know I am not hallucinating or seeing ufo's.

Now this is just hitting below the belt. You're a bad, bad man.
