Anyone else use the electric impact wrenches? What's your opinion of them?
Btw, I went with electric because I feel that my garage is not secure enough to keep an expensive air compressor in. It's one of those cheap garages with my apartment.
When I was on a crew building center pivots we used alot of 1/2 drive Makita's and they worked quite well for us. There was one DeWalt gun but it did not have the power of the Makita's. I won't own another battery cordless impact. The're a perfect waste of 3 or 4 hundred bucks.
I have a Harbor Freight electric impact and for a small job, it's great. It doesn't have the abilities that my air one does. Another bonus is that electrical outlets are all over the place, but not always an air chuck.
My brother, sister, and I bought dad one for christmas, it was a Chicago Electric 12 volt that can either plug into a cigarette lighter or clip onto the battery for the car, and I bought a Dewalt electric impact for the shop. I love it, and it works a lot better than waiting for the compressor to catchup when rotating tires on all the vehicles. And works really good on rotating tires after a brake stand out in the parking lot...haha.
A farmer I work with has one he carries in his truck. It's a Dewalt and it is a handy little booger, aweful nice when somethgin tight has to be removed and a cheater bar or air impact isn't with you!
our local junkyard uses a snap-on cordless impact wrench. Awfully handy for removing parts when an air hose ain't gonna be long enough. He zipped off both engine frame mounts in about 30 seconds. Don't own one, but sure wish I did when I seen that. But I'd spend the money on an air compressor first.
I have a Chicigo Industrial electric impact and it dose the job for the most part, not as powerfull as my IR air impact but more portable. Also have a snap on battery powered one that I keep in the truck. Great tool! Especially when it is three am with freezing rain falling and you have to change a tire. Well worth the ten bucks I paid for it at a rummage sale from a dim bulb who had no idea what it was worth.

I'll give ya fifteen bucks for it, and a lump of clay.
