Hey guys, I have been doing some research on the romeo and windsor 4.6's. Just about every thread that came up has basically no info on the differences, if any, between these engines. About the only thing I have found out is that the windsor is supposedly a tougher engine. Does anyone actually know if these two engines are swapable? Are they actually different? I am just curious to find out what people know, if anything, about the differences!
The valve covers are different and bolt up different. I was thinking the bolts on the flywheel was different but not sure about that. Also I was thinking that the romeo had a smog pump, atleast the pic that I have looks like it has one.
Some say the Windsor is better some say the romeo.Truth be told i think the same basic spec went out to two different engineering firms who put a little of their own spin on the design. Both engines are within fords specs so...
What you need to look at is faults in the mass manufacturing of the motors .I'm biased since i own a Windsor live here and personally know the people that built the line.Ive also worked on the front clip of the 04 and up.It really depends where your rig was manufactured as far as motor you get for the 4.6.I don't think Romeo builds the 5.4.
Oakville got the Windsor and i think Kentucky got the romeo most of the time.
Due to logistics, just in time delivery and production hiccups you could still have an oakville build with a romeo and visa versa.
Ill check if thy are swappable but i think they bolt up to the tranny differently not sure. But even Windsors can be a problem with year to year variances.Nothing is impossible though.
