I am currently running stock 18's on my 04 FX4 and want to replace them with a somewhat taller tire. It is important that the tires have the same road quietness as stock. What recommendations on brand and size would you suggest?

go to tirerack.com and click on a brand of tire and read some reviews that people have sent in. hope that helps. ps,type in the size you want and see what comes up.
I've got a 05 4x4 screw and had a 2.5" leveling kit installed and was able to get 285/70/17 on them. BFGR AT/KO. They look noisy but they actually ride better than the stock tires and are very quiet. Paid $1500. for five (one for the spare) and this included road hazard warranty, free lifetime balance and rotate and a new front end alignment.
Good Luck!

These BFG's are about the only choice you'll have with a larger tire in the 18" wheel (thanks FORD). These are a pretty good tire and should ride about the same as your factory tires.
I had all kinds of vibration problems with the stock Continentals 255/65/17 on my 04 SuperCrew. I replaced them a year ago with Michelin LTX M/S 265/70/17, which are quite a bit taller. I paid just under $800 drive out for all four tires from Discount Tire. These are the best set of tires I have ever owned. They are quiet, grip the road well, wear very evenly and hardly show any wear in 18,000 miles. I would definately recommend them, but you must also have them (or any other tire on this vehicle) road forced balaced. Most discount tire stores have the equipment to do this, and I think they charge $10 per tire.
