I'm a Ford Truck Lover from way back and have always had to endure the jokes. The last 10 years I feel that Ford Trucks have come a long way and, while any truck has it's quirks, they have been very competitive. My current Super Duty is absolutely awesome.
I have seen something recently that I find very disturbing. Here in Mayland the dealers have really pushed the PS and everyone seems to be driving one. Over the last few months I have seen more and more newer Super Duties sitting on the side of the highway or being towed, at least one a week! Every time I see one I look and, sure enough, there is the PS badge.
What's going on? Is this just a fluke or is there something going on that Ford's not saying? I'm starting to get a little embarassed, plus I feel bad for those guys who own them, that's frustrating.
that is why they are going to the 6.4 engine. many will say it is do to emissions. (easy and safe answer!!) but no company would put hundreds of millions of dollars into r&d,etc into an engine than walk away from it in only 3.5 model years,( unheard of) unless it was not worth it!!! say what you want, the d-max engine is 2007 emission's compliant and the cummins will be with little modification (an egr). ford, etc are cutting their losses and moving on!
I've never heard of counting vehicles on the side of the road as being a scientific method of determining reliability. There are lots of reasons vehicles are left on the side of the road. When I lived in Saudi Arabia, Rolls Royces were left on the side of the road when their ash trays got full.
that is great!! i love excuses! this is the U.S.A.(the "mecca" of personalized vehicles, etc) i have not met anyone yet, that just left their vehicle on the side of the road especially woman-because they just felt like it! if it is on the side of the road-99.9% chance it is broke!! you are correct- lots of reasons- transmission, egr, head gasket, injectors, ecm, ect!
it gives me a new outlook, though- the next time i see a vehicle on the side of the road at 11pm on a dark, rainy night, especially a ford- i'll just assume it's ash try is full!
by the way- i drive from N.Y. to CA. about 6 times a year. it is hard not to see the same vehicles (make, model) on the side of the road. it is a good gauge of deciding what to and not to buy!!!!!!!!!!!
say what you want about the 6.0 engine. but it has been a thorn in the side of ford since day one. five hundred million in warranty claims.etc. ford is happy to get rid of that engine!! but there is alot of people sitting on pins and needles hoping the 6.4 will be 100% better!!!!!!!!!!! ford is losing market share!!!!!!!
Not an excuse. Just a fact. If you want to count the number of vehicles sitting on the side of the road to determine what you are going to buy, more power to you. While you are at it, why not go to the nearest fortune teller and get another opinion.
ford owners (die-hard)-especially 150ford will justilfy about anything.if you see a certain type of vehicle on the side of the road the majority of the time and you have any sense of intellect you will automatically question the reliablity of that vehicle . you may also do research on that vehicle before you bought it. that was a weak come back, though!-fortune teller!!- that might be a good idea for anybody considering a used 03-04 truck with a 6.0 engine!

Sorry md, but how do you give a technical reply to "there are a lot of Fords on the side of the road"? I don't see them on the side of the road in Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
Just making an observation. I was a little suprised by what I was seeing because usually wen you see a car on the side of the road, one look at the condition of the vehicle answers why it's there. Probably 75% of the Super Dutys I see on the road here are diesels, which from reading posts from other regions, seems a little out of the ordinary. Seeing so many shiny Super Dutys on the side of the road would be disturbing to me if I manufactured and/or sold those trucks. Ford has too good of a truck for that.
Maybe it's the weather, or just dumb luck. I guess I just wanted to know if anyone else has seen anything similar.
Maybe it's the weather conditions up north. We've had a very mild winter in my part of the world. It was over 80 degrees in Houston this week. I have several buddies running PSD's and haven't heard any grumblings from them.
When you see Super Dutys lined up six deep, and people pushing them into the shop at the Ford Dealer that might be a hint. Everytime I talk to people who own 6.0 the first thing they tell you is how much power it has, then alittle further into the conversation they start talking about how many times it has been in the shop. I'm a Ford guy and have been for years 40 to be exact, but Ford isn't the tough rugged truck it has been in the past. I'll keep my 86 F250 4x4 460 C-6 It's paid for, license plates are $40 a year, insurance is $430 a year, and I keep it in top shape. It does everything I ask of it including pull our 10,000# travel trailer. It gets 9.75-11.2 MPG empty and about 5.9-6.5 MPG pulling our trailer at 65 MPH.
