HID headlight conversion

Just wondering if anyone out there has done a headlight bulb conversion over to the true HID lights. No I'n not talking about the blue bulbs, but the "real" HID arc lights.

I have been watching the conversion kits and they have dropped down in price to where I might be able to justify changing over.

I would be interested in knowing which kit you used, if you think it was worth the $$$ and your impression of the lights in general.

Thanks,

I had a set on my VW and it was OUTSTANDING..... nothin compares... if you want actual light output to see with dont go over 6000K .... 4300 is the best for actual light. and then it grows by number as the blue tinge gets introduced

i have a set of CATZ hid 9007's. 4500k. and 4500k 9005 fog light conversion. i love them. they are so bright. people flash their lights at me so much. when i flash them back, they probably go blind. i think mine are the only true DUAL beam hid's too. i cant find them anywhere now. and no one else makes the dual beam hid. 3 years ago, $650. never had a problem yet. definately well worth it.

dual mode 9007's??? the 9007 is a dual filament bulb. almost all the manufacturers that make hid kits eliminate the high beam when you do the conversion. thats because catz is the only company that figured out how to have a dual filament hid. when you activate the high beams, it changes the voltage in the ballast and then changes the position of the arc inside the bulb, causing you to get a high beam. it is no brighter than the low beam, just because the position of the arc is changed , it is reflecting off of the lens differently=giving the higher beam location. DID A SEARCH AGAIN, CANT FIND ANYTHING IN THE US THAT SELL A DUAL FILAMENT HID CONVERSION KIT. ALL KITS MAKE YOU LOOSE THE HIGH BEAM FUNCTION.

On some kits the high beam on the dual filament bulb will be a standard halogen filament

I'm not speaking for all kits but i have seen some close up pics of the bulbs in the high/low kits and you can clearly see a halogen capsule in there

the blinglight site did not mention anything about the high beam part. after i got mine i still cant find any that enable you to have a hid low beam and high beam from the same bulb (9007). if anyone can find them, post the site. and the part about having a halogen filament inside the hid capsule, i find it hard to believe because of the temps that are in the bulb--up to 12000 degrees k. that would melt it. hid's work of of igniting the gas inside the bulb with an arc--very high voltage. the power that is at the bulb is getting that voltage, not the 12 volts from a typical electrical system. if there is such a kit, i would love to see it.

quick note: mine also came with a special high/low controller that senses when you turn the high beams on and changes the voltages to the bulbs. it is not seen or listed anywhere. BUT, I DOUBT IT, I COULD BE WRONG. TECHNOLOGY HAS CHANGED, AND THEY MAY NOW MAKE A KIT, BUT I CANT FIND IT.......

Just out of curiosity but why would you want to blind everyone on the road? Espcially if they are headed in your direction??? Drop-in kits are illegal for a reason. If your going to do it, do it right and get a projector put inside your (oem 02+)housing. You can even get true bi-xenon if you do that. Its not easy, but can be done!

turboale, mine ARE true dual beam hid's. projectors, dont have anything to do with it. most of the hid cars dont have projector hid's in them anyway..it is just a plug in bulb that goes to a ballast and so fourth....
