Dont buy from this guy

I recently bought some ice scratchers for my snowmobile on ebay, I only did it because the guy claimed to be in town, otherwise i would have bought some from the dealership. Anyway, i won them, sent him an email to get his address to come pick them up. He says he isn't in town, he lives 1 1/2 hours away and he will be in town to ship some stuff a few days later. Then I say I can meet with him then and says there is no way he will let me come and pick it up, i have to pay for shipping. Even if i do pick them up, i would have to pay shipping. He wants to ship them for 14, and in reality will only cost 4. I ask what the problem with me coming over is and then is when he starts to feed me a bunch of Admin note: see our guidelines about language<!-- bull @$*% -->! He says if word got out that he gave me the scratchers for what I bought them for FAIR AND SQUARE, the place where he gets them for at cost will no longer sell them to him. Admin note: see our guidelines about language <!-- WTF?? --> If he wanted to get more money for them, raise the starting price, don't feed me this Admin note: see our guidelines about language <!-- bull @#&$ --> and tell me that I got a great deal out of it, Does this sound familiar to anyone <!-- http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/sho...t=decker+cycle ) --> I really have Admin note: see our guidelines about language <!-- a-holes --> like this and if I give him bad feedback, he will only retaliate. So don't buy anything from this guy, he is a cheat and a lier. <!-- http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZhtisystems -->

wait till he gives you feedback, then give him the neutral or negative about being a liar and crook.

also report him to ebay as a scammer.

I would try to cut my loses(so far it would be a loss of time.) and tell him you would like to come to the agreement to cancel your winning bid. If he agrees and you both cancel it through ebay then no one should have to leave negative feedback.

But if the arrangements to pick them up were not made prior to your Winning bid and his auction says No Pickup and you had the winning bid. Then it might fall on you to pay or get negative feedback? After viewing the other auctions he has, I see no mention of local pickup. Seems like it is the buyers responsibility here to ensure they know what they are bidding on. Also, his shipping rate shows $14 on the auctions. So it appears, technically, everything on his end is legit. I wouldn't think it fair to give this guy negative feedback. He's got 30+, all positive so far.

Looks to me like you're at fault. The items clearly state $14 shipping. If you didn't ask him in advance if pickup was available without paying shipping... well, then you're stuck with the amount agreed to in the auction. The sale is a contract and I assume your word does mean something to you, doesn't it? There are two sides to every story, and I would venture to say half the businesses on ebay pad shipping prices. Its par for the course, which is why any one buying on ebay should ask questions first, not later.

Also, please see our guidelines about language.

If he was so against someone picking it up, he should state that, but he didn't. It wasn't the 14 dollar shipping that irritated me, it is the fact that he has to lie and say that if word got out he sold them to someone at the "dealers cost", the dealer that supply's him the ice scratchers would get mad and not sell them to him anymore. Exactally how would they find out and why would they even care? If they guy wanted more money, raise the starting price. I will just have to put this in my live and learn experiences.

Should have asked him before you put in a bid. We have done that before with tiems that we found local. As the saying goes -- buyer beware. Is this guy selling them at a lower price than what the retailers get for them? Is he making up the difference in the shipping cost?

Actually you are in the wrong here! There is no reason he would need to state that. Many sellers do not allow local pickup. His shipping terms were given in the auction. If you did not ask ahead of time it is your fault, -not his. Many sellers also have low start prices and have high shipping to pad the price. They do that to show up first on ebay searches with lowest price first, -a common ebay marketing technique. As far as raising the start price that is his business and not yours. You need to pay attention to the ebay listings. Giving the seller a negative or even a neutral in this case is completely out of line. If you are still unhappy just do not rate him at all. I have been buying off ebay for years with excellent results and a 100% positive rating.

Always check shipping and handling before you bid!
It seems like shipping and handling are the major sources of profit for many ebay sellers.

Jacked up shipping rates are too common. The last time ebay raised the seller fees, this got even worse. Look at computer cases, you see tons of cases with a buy it now of like $10, but shipping is $40. You know exactly what they are doing.

If I bought something locally listed, I always contacted the seller before the close of the auction to make sure I could pick it up locally. You never know if they have it there, or are arranging a drop ship. You see it in DVD's where the seller will be listed as in the US, but the product will ship from the far east.

Live and learn.

I am waiting for this to happen as we speak. I won a new PDA on UBID for $1.00 with $14.30 shipping and handling for a grand total of $15.30. If it does come through I am betting it won't be a brand new one like the auction says.

One thing I really like about this site is that you'll get the honest truth, even if you don't want to hear it.

many sellers use the shipping cost to cover ebay fee's. you are in the wrong here. if it says 14.00 you pay 14.00 , you can't lower the price even if you are local.

People Talk.... The dealer would be pissed if Say JOE SNOWMOBILER finds out that a better price is possible and now demands that lower price.

I agree with Ken, the guy did not list "local pickup" as an option. By bidding you agreed to the shipping terms and the sellers TOS.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ask before bidding

Hmmmmmm. Arguing with the site owner and creator while also not appologizing for using naughty language. Very bad juju.
