Door hinge bolt replacment

I had one broken bolt on my door hinges of my 54. So I pressed it out and ordered a new pin from Mid-Fifties. Could believe it was taking so long for it to arrive via UPS. I ordered it a week before Christmas and was checking the door several times a day because my wife had asked me to stop spending money until after the holidays were over. So I said sure.LOL!! Well easier said then done. So it hadn't showed up and it was Christmas morning. Started passing out gifts to the kids and my wife gave me a gift. Opened it up and found a nice new bolt.LOL! Man she got me good.
Anyways I took it into work tonight and found that it isn't going to fit. The package said oversize , but I think it said 11/32 in dia. when I looked in the catalog. Not sure if I should drill out the hinge a bit to make it fit, or I did find another bolt out of another catalog I have that looks like it may work better. Anyone have this problem before?

Happy and SAFE New Year to you all!!!!

Thanks,

Matt

I never had a hinge pin break on me.

Are the holes where the pin presses through worn out?

Do you know what caused the pin to break?

I'd try the other pin you have and see if it works.

Then, if it didn't work, as a last resort, I would ream it out, carefully.

Worst comes to worst, you can always get another hinge, but they're a bit pricey at around $70.00.

Not much help, but good luck.

The holes seem fine and not worn. Looks like it just cracked up near the top where it was spot welded.

Was the pin spot welded up on the top part of the hinge?

I don't remember. My hinges are stashed away in one of twelve boxes of parts for my 55 F100 truck.

I'll have to check out my hinges.

I would try the pin that isn't oversized and see if it works, and go from there.

Post when you get the hinge fixed.

I bought the oversized hinge pins from MidFifty and reamed out the holes to get a tight fit. You can either press them in or drive them in carefully.
