Michelle found out I used to play the guitar and since the old one is long gone, she talked me into Picking it up again by buying a new one.The doctor told her it would be good thing to do to fight my Arthritis.
Pardon the PUN, but I'm trying not to FRET too much over this
I was told I can expect getting it by January 10th, That gives me 2 weeks to go over some old music books for hopefully some Total Recall
Anyone else here take up a musical intrument this last few months ?
I'm sure your arm had to be twisted REAL hard...and no, I will not pardon the pun.
I would like to take guitar lessons but I travel 30 days at a time with work - averaging nearly 9 months out of the year. (sigh) sooner or later I will be able to work locally again and hope to take it then. Heard playing the guitar is a chick magnet
Well Dennis, I too picked up my guitar after letting it sit for years. One bit of advice, take it slow for a while. Build up those calluses. Then just keep plinking.
I've been playing guitar for almost 4 years now...and i'm getting ready to turn 18...so yea, been playing since I was 14...How long ago was it that you played?..How good were you then?..Did you ever get in to music theory or anything?..That would help ALOT, although I know very little of it. You don't HAVE to know music theory to play an instrument well though, you just have to have an ear for what sounds good. Jimi Hendrix knew no theory, yet he's looked upon as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Good luck in remembering everything man, i'm sure it'll all come back with a little time.
The wife used to play Sax, guitar and various other instruments in HS and College, actually her scholarship was music.
Well, she hasn't picked them up in years and occassionally she will and, ohhhhhhhhhhhh the sounds that come out until she gets used to them again, especially the Sax.
I've taken up guitar every 6 months for the last 20 years. I need to find a link about buying a new guitar helps arthritis to show my wife. Might be time I tried arthritis, begging hasn't worked..
Cool!,I just picked up mine I have nerve damage and pain in my hands and arms so I havn't touched it for a couple yrs, played it till my fingers almost bled, trying to pick up pink floyds wish you were here man I forgot a lot of that song.A buddys kids just started to play so I got someone to jam with, there already playing better then me(to be young again!).Right now I am playing my first edition Fender Squier w/floyd rose2 locking trem electric.I was selling my fender but was told by several shops I should keep it(never saw another one like it)I bought a Ibanez G 10 to replace the fender but now I am going to sell it.I want a Ovation electric/acoustic.I also have a fender 12 string acoustic but it hurts to much right now to fret it.
Ive been playing since i was 14 as well. However, since i got a job, married, etc, it just kinda sits on its stand in the living room. Every now and i will pick it up, and oddly enough, it sounds as good as it did when i set it down last. I always expect my skill or the sound or something to be horrible, yet it isnt, its almost BETTER than after ive been playing for a couple hours....wierd.
Nice!I try to play at least once a week but hard to fit it in music is fun till its work good idea for the arthritus it will definetly work all muscles in chest to finger tips great exercise happy to hear it.appreciate ya!

The only instrument that I play is the truck radio. . . and I get static on that. So, I guess I won't be picking up a guitar, anytime soon!
I've also been told that, "I can't carry a tune in a bucket." So, I won't be singing, either!
i have been playing for instruments since i was 6 years old. started with the violin, took lessons all the way thru high school, won a full scolarship to USC during a talent show at the kennendy center in washington DC back in the early 80's. I have played with the Phil Harmonic Orch. in new york and the St paul Mn Orch in minnesota. But now i havent touched a violin in many years. I picked up a guitar when i was 16 years old at a friends house and found that it was easy to play. Withen a few months i was playing in a band almsot every weekend at parties and dances. after college was over and real life began i slowed a little while my teaching career was getting into full swing. I taught music to hundreds of students over the next few years until i moved back to iowa. Where teachers dont get paid enough so i quit that. i starting playing in a band again and spent several years doing that, our band was noticed by someone important down near St Louis one night and we were asked to be the opening act at a concert the following weekend. So to our surprise we ended up opening for the Blues Travelers, who were opening up for Pearl Jam that night. Was quite a sight seeing the lights go on over 30,000 screaming people. We played for 42 minutes. After that our lead singer got a big head and was doing alot of cocaine and crank and got it into his head he was the band. so we all went our seperate ways. I currently teach the kids in our neighborhood that cant afford to buy instuments and take lessons. Someone on here a few years ago sent me a very nice yamaha accoustic guitar that i have given to my star student, her family was moving back to kentucky and she was upset that she wouldnt be able to play anymore. So i let her keep it so she will keep playing ( I hope you dont mind ) She is really gifted. I currently play more instruments, all self taught. Bass - drums - piano - sax - french horn - harmonica and mess with a few others. There is nothing like playing a instument. Just try and pass it on to the children in your life or around you. i have about 17 kids now i teach on weekends and during the week when i am home, we share three guitars between us and on times i even send my guitar home with them so they can learn while i am at work. And over half of them are female, so it proves guitars are chick magents lol
