I installed a 390ci engine from a '74 Ford pickup in my '85 Bronco.Everthing is working fine except the clutch. The setup on the Bronco uses a hydraulic clutch. Does anyone have any suggestions on making this work with the clutch from the pickup?
Based on what you have said, I assume you are using BOTH the 390 AND the transmission that was originally in the '74 truck. The thing to figure out would be whether or not there was ever a manual tranny bolted behind a 390 that used a hydraulic clutch and use that tranny. I know the 390 was never a factory option for the Bronco so you won't find anything to cross to from the Bronco. The other option would be to figure out if any of the OEM Bronco transmissions can be adapted to bolt to the 390. Sounds like a question for the folks in the transmission forum unless someone here can answer. I know I can't. I don't know the interchangability of the components well enough.
Oh, option three (which would seem rather a rather tedious and far-fetched option) would be to spend a whole lot of time fabricating a custom mechanical clutch linkage into the Bronco to work with the clutch setup that you are dealing with.

I am using the transmission from the '85 Bronco. I fabricated a bracket to mount the slave cylinder to the bell housing, but it will but can not seem to get enough movement ou t of the slave cylinder push rod to fully operate the pressure plate. Do you know if there is a slave cylinder with a greater pressure? And would I need to change the master cylinder as well?
