My brother has a 79 f150 that has got us stumped. Ever since we've had it, the rear brake lines will somehow get air in it. We can bleed the rear, have a good pedal, then the next day, it will have air in it again. There are no signs of leaks at the wheel cylinders or any of the lines or m/c, but air is definetly getting into the system somehow. Ever heard of this before?
Are you losing fluid? If so thats where the air is coming from. Find the leak!! If not leaking, then you may have an air pocket in the master cylinder. Have you replaced the master cylinder? If so, bench bleeding it is very important. You can bleed the master on the truck. Bleed it just like you would bleed at the wheels, but cracking the lines to the master cylinder open instead of bleeder valves. Then bleed at all four wheels. Try starting engine after bleeding, if it's still a spongy petal continue bleeding. I've bled the wheels on one of my trucks for almost an hour before finally getting ALL the air out.
Mav,
If you can get a good pedal, then you've got a loose line. You will have to get a wrench and physically put your hands on every brake line in the system. While your busting your knuckles look for fluid.
Good Luck, Have Fun,
