i am gonna have to do this soon, and i need a walk through on howto. i also want to know what is the best brand? i know they make a walboro but this isnt a race truck or anything that needs 255lph so what is the best close to stocker for the cheapest?
You'll need fuel line tools like you use to replace the fuel filter. You'll also probably need a floor jack to lower the tank down. It's way easier to remove the tank when it's almost empty.
As for a cheap pump I wouldn't go that route. I've seen too many problems with cheap aftermarket pumps. I would price out a genuine Ford part and compare it to what it will cost if you need to replace a cheap pump a couple times.
where can i get this 70 dollar pump? does anyone have a walktrhough on howto change the pump? i know all about the little plastic tabs they are one my trans am. but that pump is a pain. i dont wanna have to go through all that.
last time I changed a electric pump in a pickup, I removed the bed.
got two come alongs and some straps, pulled into the garage and hooked straps to bed and come alongs to roof of garage. unbolted bed and gas fillers and unclipped the wiring for rear lights. pulled bed up high enough to push truck out from under the bed and changed the pump standing up. didn't have to drain the gas, lay on my back trying to balance the gas tank. was pretty easy doing it that way.
i have a spray in bed liner will that affect anything? i will probably do it that way. the whole reason i am doing this is because lately my truck has had a very hard start and i have to hold the starter and pump the gas. what do u think could casue that? i think bad fuel pump or the fuel line that goes to the fuel pump. the little one inside the tank.
i dunno about holding it open. i will try that tomm morning. i know it only gives me trouble when i have to first startt it in the morning. and it just got very cold here. adn tahts when it started acting up. what else could be it be? i never replaced the filter and it has 133k miles on it.
If holding the throttle open a bit helps then you probably have an IAC (Idle Air Control) problem. It's fairly common.
Even if the fuel filter isn't plugged it's way past time to replace it.
How old are your spark plugs?
fuel filter i have never replaced and i bought the truck at 117k, the plugs are very new. the only thing i have had a concern on was that when i took the plugs out there was alot of grudge and oil around and on the socket and plug. is this normal? how do i change the IAC thing?
As far as removing the bed goes, those bolts (torx T-50) don't come out so easy, and when you have to cut one just remember, their $8 bucks apeice and the clip nuts are $5, plus they only come in packs of 8, so unless some dealer already has a pack open...
Doesn't sound like a fuel pump to me....especially if it only happens in the morning when cold. If it were the pump, it would have issues all of the time. I hate issues.....
i am finding out that it is getting harder and harder. my wife drives the truck so i dont know everything it does. she is telling me that it is happeneing after work now. i think this IAC might be the problem. i will replace teh fuel filter and clean the IAC and see if that fixes it. how much luck do u think i have with just cleaning the IAC?
