i have a 94 ranger and id say 50 percent of the time when u try to start it it just clicks....i changed starter amd soleind both and check all the wiring and it still does it...on both starters..what else could it be? plzzz help
From personal experience with a very similar problem I found that my battery was going bad. You might want to take your battery to a place like AutoZone or Advance Auto and have them run the free test on it. Hope this helps.
Hmm I'd have to think about the wiring more but since it's not the starter or solenoid, yeah I would say the ignition switch is the only other player aside from power in general.
I'd be thinking battery cables, battery terminal connection condition, and/or a bad ground. Also, just because you replaced a part doesn't guarantee that the one you installed is good; been there, done that on fresh out of the box parts.
youve tried 3 batteries, a new starter and starter relay, and it works when you tap it with a hammer... looking at this from an electrical point of view I would agree with Cowboy as well as Rich636. I would check the battery cables, and ignition switch and recheck the starter relay/starter. I have put brand new out of the box parts into a vehicle and the parts were bad.
yea i have goten new bad parts to...i changed the cable ends and cables and got my battery and starter checkd agian just to b postive and its still does it but seems to become more frequent...igntion switch is bout all thats left lol
So you did cross over the sylenoid manually with a screwdriver? You took the wire with the elbow off and cross that terminal with the terminal leading down to the starter? I just wanted to make sure you didn't misunderstand what I was talking about there since I didnt explain what I was talking about lol.
A guy in the 87-96 F series forum had a similar problem with his truck. Starter had a broken bolt and it wasn't getting a good ground or it was binding up. I would check all your grounds.
i know its kool man...i feel dumb casue i cant figure this out haha...i clean where all the new cables hooked and cleand where the grounds hook...ver confusing problem lol
