2005 Screw Slow To Downshift
I have a 2005 Lariat Screw with the 5.4L that had the banging in the rear end on right turns. This started just out of the box. Took it in for service and they reflashed the PCM and the banging mostly went away. Since then, almost immediately afterward, I experienced the lovely acceleration hesitation around 30-40 mph where the truck falls on it’s face when accelerating after coasting or maintaining speed. A few weeks ago running the hills of Branson, it just about kicked me. When I haul my 3000# trailer and hit even a mild hill, it will fall on its face when downshifting. To top it off, the banging in the rear end is coming back now. I’m at 27,000 miles. I would just write it off, but this is a company truck that I baby, so with the used values being in the pooper now, I have had thoughts about buying it from the company to keep as a weekend warrior vehicle, but I don’t want a bucket of bolts that craps out on me when I own it. Otherwise, it has been good. It gets an average of 16mpg over 27000 miles with about 1600 gallons of fuel, sometimes 19.5 mpg and a few times at 13 on a really bad day. She’s not a Powerstroke, but she’ll do. I am just so disgusted with the intermittent shifting and banging that I am about to write off a 150 next time. My last 6.0L Stroke had turbo lag, but at least I knew when it would lag. This 150 is as fickle as they come. The colder the day, the worse it is. But then again, the warmer days it does it too. Has anybody else had this problem? What cured it? I would like them to reflash it back to the original code, but they say it is impossible without replacing the PCM with an original factory coded one. Jeeesh!
