Do I need to wash the chasis after snow?

05 truck, just 1000 miles yet. Do I need to wash the chasis everything after the snow?

They use salt on the road. But I don't know if washing chasis is necessary for a new truck, since I think a new truck chasis is protected by something already.

It couldnt hurt. Its a small price to help that big dollar investment last longer.

If you plan to wash the bottom every time they salt the roads you are going to be a busy man. I do mine every few weeks. good luck tom

just take it to one of those do-it-yourself washes with the high powered hose and spray the undercarriage every few weeks or so. I wouldn't go nuts right now though, you have quite a few more months of road salt to worry about.

talking about the high pressure spay, a friend told me that the spray is so strong that it might hurt the paint or protective coatings. Anyone heard of the same story?

it shouldn't hurt the paint but it will strip wax. Just don't hold the nozzle too close to the truck's surface, areas that may be lubricate, or even rubber components and you should be okay for the winter.

Red face

we get a lot of snow up here and lots of salt and sand are put on the roads right up to May. When it gets above 20 degrees the salt is more active on metal that is when I spend the money to car wash the under side. Also thats when it is not frozen solid to the under side and will come off. If you are lucky enough to have a heated garage you should wash the underside more often. My garage is the same temp. inside as out side 30 below at times.

I read somewhere in these posts that someone uses a lawn sprinkler. Just attach it to your hose and slowly drag it under the truck. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to every few weeks. My friend actually gets under his truck each spring and hand washes the surfaces. His mechanics are very impressed every time they work on his truck. It's cleaner than new trucks. I'm not sure I'll ever attempt that but apparently there are benefits to his extra care.
